Like many great rock and roll stories, Advantage Music started out in a garage. What began as a small operation out of the house, quickly grew into something much bigger.
Now, nearly 30 years later, Advantage Music remains a proud family-owned and operated small business. We’ve become a trusted one-stop shop for musicians across New York and beyond, offering everything from instrument rentals, sales to repairs, accessories, and expert advice.
Our team understands that every musician’s journey is unique. That’s why we take pride in offering not just high quality instruments and expert repairs, but also personalized service and genuine care. About the Owner – Alfred Volta
Alfred Volta grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where his lifelong passion for music first began. As a drummer, he played in local bands and was deeply influenced by legendary groups like The Beatles and Grand Funk Railroad. Music wasn’t just a hobby. It helped shape his life!
Alfred spent his early years working in record shops, immersing himself in the culture of sound and surrounding himself with musicians and mentors who encouraged him deeply. That love of music and community eventually led him to create something of his own. A music store built by musicians, for musicians. The rest is history.

Meet the Team
Charlie La Rocco Manager
I started working in a local music shop as a teenage, guitar student keeping busy after school. I had taken interest in the music business from all angles and my supervisors did take notice.
Starting with duties like cleaning bathrooms, lesson rooms and stocking shelves, I had moved on to guitar repairs and guitar instructor. Getting proficient in different areas of the business started to make me want this as full time career. As time went by, I did realize it was time for me to learn the elements of the business that wasn’t necessarily in the front of the house.
In 2006, I joined the ranks at Advantage Music as management. In the nearing 20 years I have worked at Advantage Music, I have had the privilege of working with some of the best families, educators and musicians.
Aside from music, my life is busy with my wife and son. We care for our many pets, love cooking and as of recent, became fans of diamond art.
